The Securities Investors Association (Singapore) (SIAS) marked a significant milestone tonight as it celebrated its 25th Anniversary, a momentous occasion that highlighted its enduring contributions to investor education, advocacy, and corporate governance in Singapore. The prestigious event was graced by none other than the Guest of Honour, Singapore’s President Mr Tharman Shanmugaratnam, who is known for his profound impact on the nation’s financial and economic policies. His presence underscored the importance of SIAS in fostering investor protection and empowerment over the last quarter-century.
In addition to President Tharman, the event attracted an illustrious group of attendees from the highest echelons of Singapore’s financial and public sectors. Notable figures included Emeritus Senior Minister (ESM) Goh Chok Tong, Mr Dilhan Pillay, CEO of Temasek Holdings, and Mr Piyush Gupta, CEO of DBS Group, among others. These leaders, along with top civil servants such as former Cabinet Minister Mr Lim Chee Onn and Monetary Authority of Singapore’s Managing Director Mr Chia Der Jiun, came together to recognize the achievements of SIAS. The evening was a celebration not only of SIAS’s 25 years but also of its continuing mission to safeguard and enhance the interests of retail investors in Singapore.
I had the privilege of joining these distinguished guests, as well as fellow members of the SIAS Management Committee, to celebrate the association’s Silver Jubilee. Led by the visionary leadership of Mr David Gerald, Founder and President of SIAS, the evening reflected on the association’s journey, its pivotal role in shaping Singapore’s financial landscape, and its steadfast commitment to promoting sound corporate governance and investor rights. The event was a resounding success, paying tribute to the organization’s legacy while looking forward to future contributions in safeguarding investor interests.
