Organised by the Institute of Singapore Chartered Accountants (ISCA)
I moderated a panel discussion this afternoon on the topic, “CG Roundtable | Treatment of Whistle Blowing & Roles of Internal Audit” held at the Institute of Singapore Chartered Accountants (ISCA).
There were close to 100 attendees at the fire-side discussion, comprising market regulators, professionals, directors and senior executives of listed companies, and management committee members of public charities.
The event was a lively and interactive session. Panel members and attendees shared their experiences in managing whistle-blowing complaints. War stories were aplenty with vivid accounts of management override and coercion/intimidations from dominant C-Suite executives – to obstruct investigations.
Panel members also related their encounters with vindictive and disgruntled employees who had abused or weaponised whistleblowing as a means to discredit fellow employees, or to attack senior management out of spite and vengeance.
I must applaud ISCA for hosting a very rewarding event. Participants found the discussions useful and informative.
